Summerus Childus Obnoxious

Symptoms of Summerus Childus Obnoxious:

  • Non-stop whining

  • Responding to every request with "no" or "I don't want to"

  • Incessant requests to go to the pool after they've been told no

  • Frequent tearful reactions to minor things often accompanied by stomping off

  • Refusal to eat anything other than mashed potatoes and Popsicles

My kids have got a severe case, from what it sounds like it might be going around Builder Mama HQ as well. Is it the different summer schedule? Are they just tired from being outside all day? Is it the influence of the older kids on PDQ? Is it the heat? I don't know, but I can say it was one of those mornings where there was no regret in dropping them off and going to work. Just five minutes of quiet, really, what a concept. I swear Boobah has no off button and PDQ's volume is stuck on 10. Less than three weeks to vacation, pray that we all live that long!

I am so, so, so with you. But add my SAHD husband to the mix. Tonight, in what is absolutely a low moment, I informed him and the 2 five year olds that if they couldn't figure out a way to clean up their messes - which have invaded every room of the house - that I would just go get my own apartment and they could all visit me there. Guilt aside, the idea is somewhat appealing. I think the hot is getting to all of us - along with the boredom. School can't come soon enough.

I am LMAO at Joansy. The idea of getting my own apartment is a thrilling idea right now.

You know Monkey Man - fairly mild-mannered, easy going kid. Not this week. Everything I ask him to do or tell him we're getting ready to do is greeted with "Aw, man!" or "Shucks!" Even if it was something that not even five minutes beforehand he was excited about doing.

It is making me nuts. I think it's the lack of consistent structure at summer camp - they've had fun, fun, fun all day long and then want to come home and be entertained too, while all I want is to be left alone. Or maybe not alone, but at least no whining or demands for longer than 2.7 seconds.

Rant over.

I think Builder Mama hit the nail on the head - it is the lack of structure. Also, it sounds like they may be really tired in general. Any way you can drug them and make them go to sleep for 10+ hours?

We have about 5 wks before school starts again.

I've found it is most likely do to not enough sleep.

Hope everyone straightens out soon!

You may stone me. But since summer began and Anthony is in non stop sports related activities, he is too exhausted to whine. He's been relatively delightful. Given the number of times he was in trouble all winter, his caregivers are noting what a delight he is.

This must be my joyful karma for all the times he made me go talk to the principal.

(mind you, my children have never cleaned up anything)
